math.pow() is a method that returns base raised to the power of exponent (value^exponent operation).

import math

#               base    exponent
print(math.pow( 1,      2   ) )     # 1.0
print(math.pow( 2,      2   ) )     # 4.0
print(math.pow( 3,      2   ) )     # 9.0

print(math.pow( 0,      3   ) )     # 0.0
print(math.pow( 0.5,    0.3 ) )     # 0.8122523963562356
print(math.pow( -1,     4   ) )     # 1.0

print(math.pow( -0.5,   -2  ) )     # 4.0
print(math.pow( -2.0,   -2  ) )     # 0.25
print(math.pow( 2.0,    0.5 ) )     # 1.4142135623730951
