In this article, we would like to present hot key definition in programming.

Definition

Edit

A hot key is a single key or a combination of keys that, when pressed at one time, executes a command or performs a specific task (such as starting an application). Hot keys are supported by many operating systems and applications. Sometimes they are called shortcut keys.

Practical example

Edit

In this section, we present a list of the most common hot keys that you might know:

  • Ctrl + A - selects entire content in some area (e.g. web page text),
  • Ctrl + C - copies selected text,
  • Ctrl + V - pastes copied text,
  • Ctrl + X - cuts selected text,
  • Ctrl + B - bolds highlighted selection,
  • Alt + F4 - closes the current application (or shuts down Windows)
  • Shift + Ctrl + Esc - opens task manager under Windows 10+,
  • Windows + Shift + S - opens the snipping tool under Windows 10+.
