In this article, we would like to show you how to remove an index from the existing table in PostgreSQL.

Quick solution:

ALTER TABLE "table_name"
DROP INDEX "index_name";

or

DROP INDEX "index_name" ON "table_name";

Practical example

In this example, we will remove the salary_index created in the previous article.

Query:

ALTER TABLE "users"
DROP INDEX "salary_index";

or

DROP INDEX "salary_index" ON "users";
