In this article, we would like to show you how to remove an index from the existing table in MySQL.

Quick solution:

ALTER TABLE `table_name`
DROP INDEX `index_name`;

or

DROP INDEX `index_name` ON `table_name`;

Practical example

In this example, we will remove the salary_index created in the previous article.

Query:

ALTER TABLE `users`
DROP INDEX `salary_index`;

or

DROP INDEX `salary_index` ON `users`;
