In this article, we would like to show you how to count duplicated rows in MS SQL Server.

Quick solution:

SELECT 
    [column_name], COUNT([column_name])
FROM
    [table_name]
GROUP BY 
    [column_name]
HAVING 
    (COUNT([column_name]) > 1);

 

Practical example

To show how to count duplicated rows, we will use the following users table:

In this example, we will count duplicated user names.

Query:

SELECT 
    [name], COUNT([name]) AS 'count'
FROM
    [users]
GROUP BY

HAVING 
    (COUNT([name]) > 1);
