In this article, we would like to show you how to get the list of files and directories from the directory specified by its path in Java.

Quick solution:

File myFile = new File("C:\\some_path\\example");
String[] fileList = myFile.list(); // returns array of files and directories

Practical example

In this example, we use Java.if.File.list() method to get the list of files and directories under the given path.

import java.io.File;
import java.io.IOException;
import java.util.Objects;

public class Example {

    public static void main(String[] args) {
        File myFile = new File("C:\\projects\\example");
        String[] paths = myFile.list(); // array of files and directories

        String[] strings = Objects.requireNonNull(paths); // creates strings if paths != null

        for (String path : strings) {
            System.out.println(path);
        }
    }
}
